Cork Airport

Cork Airport
Cork Airport (ORK)

Cork Airport (in Irish: Aerfort Chorcaí) is the second largest airport in Ireland after Dublin International Airport. In 2006 a new, extremely modern terminal was opened. The airport is now better equipped to process the three million passengers per year. Cork Airport is an important airport for the Irish airline Aer Lingus and budget airline Ryanair. There are direct international connections with cities including London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Berlin, Paris and New York. Cork is on the south coast where the river Lee flows into Cork Harbour, a profound bay of the sea. The airport regularly contends with bad weather conditions. Under those circumstances airplanes are redirected to Shannon, Kerry or Dublin.

Local transport

Train

There is no train connection with Cork Airport. Trains go to all important destinations in Ireland from Kent Station in Cork. It is also the main station for city trains in Cork.

Car and bus

The airport is six kilometers south of the centre of Cork at the end of the motorway N27. The motorway goes further to the south by way of the R600 (to Kinsale).

Every half hour a Skylink shuttle bus leaves to Cork. This bus goes to all of the large hotels. There are also city busses that go from the airport to Cork with a travel time of approximately 25 minutes.

Car rental Cork Airport

In the Arrivals Hall you can find the counters for various car rental companies including Avis, Budget, Hertz, Europcar, Irish Car Rentals, Alamo, National and Thrifty. You can also reserve a rental car in advance using the service EasyTerra provides. They compare the rates of several providers in a single quote.

Taxi

Taxis are outside of the Arrivals Hall. A ride to the centre of Cork costs about € 15.00.

Airport Parking

Right next to the new terminal is a parking garage for short term parking (1 hour: € 2.00, 6 hours: € 7.50). There are two parking areas for long term parking (3 days: € 17.00, 15 days: €60.00). You are lead to a free parking place by electronic boards. Regular users of the parking facilities at Cork Airport are entitled to reduced rates.

Services

Hotels

There is one hotel at the airport that is directly across from the terminal: Radisson SAS. For more hotels and reserving online you can go to Booking.com. They have a large offering of hotels with great internet rates.

Shops and restaurants

With the completion of the new terminal the offering of bars, restaurants and shops has greatly expanded at Cork Airport. You will not find an à la carte restaurant, but there is a special sports bar (with large television screens), a Starbucks (coffee) and a Subway (sandwiches).

Baggage

Because of security reasons there are no baggage safes at Cork Airport. The office for lost and found items is available by telephone at tel: +353(0)21 4329600.

Information

There is an information counter in the Arrivals Hall between the car rental companies and the Londis shop (tel: +353(0)21 4313131).
