Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG)

Paris Charles de Gaulle is the most important airport in France and one of the busiest airports in Europe. The French also call it l’Aéroport de Roissy, where the airport is located. The airport has three terminals which are connected by a free shuttle bus. There are actually more terminals because terminal 2 consists of six different buildings (numbered 2A-2F). This terminal is used for European flights. Terminal 1 is used for international flights and terminal 3 (formerly T9) is used for charter flights and budget companies.

Local Transport

Train

Thanks to the high speed train TGV and regional trains of the RER, Paris Charles de Gaulle has excellent rail connections with Paris, the rest of France, and some other European capitals. The train station can be found in terminal 2. The departure times of the trains can be found on the information board at baggage handling.

Car and bus

The airport is 23 kilometers northeast of Paris along highway A1 (exit 6 ‘Aéroport Paris-Charles de Gaulle’). You can also reach the airport via the A3 from Porte de Bagnolet (exit 3 connects to the A1, the airport is clearly indicated on the signs).

Every 15 minutes a shuttle bus leaves from Place de l’Opéra in Paris (corner of Rue Scribe and Rue Auber) to the airport. The travel time takes between 45 and 60 minutes. There are also mini buses between the airport and Paris, and seats can be reserved at: (tel: +33(0)1 4418 3602).

In all terminals you can find counters of car rental companies (Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, National en Sixt). You can also reserve a rental car in advance using the service EasyTerra provides. They compare the rates of several providers in a single quote.

Taxi

A taxi to the centre of Paris costs about € 50.00 (day rate). There is also a limousine service that can bring you to the centre of Paris at a fixed rate. These limousines can be reserved through Aéroports Limousine (tel: +33(0)1 4071 8462).

Airport Parking

There are parking garages for short term parking close to all terminals. The Holiday Car Park (Parc Vacances) is intended for long term parking (€ 120 for 8 to 13 days, € 175 for 14 to 30 days). There are two other parking lots, Px and Pr, for long term parking (next to hotel Sofitel). Both cost € 15.00 per day. There is a shuttle bus between the parking lots and the various terminals.

Hotels

In Terminal 2 is the Sheraton Charles de Gaulle (tel: +33(0)1 4919 7070) established. Further from the airport you can find Kyriad Prestige (tel: +33(0)1 3429 0000), Ibis (tel: +33(0)1 4919 1919), Novotel (tel: +33(0)1 4919 2727), Sofitel (tel: +33(0)1 4919 2929) and Hilton (tel: +33(0)1 4919 7777). There are free shuttle busses from terminals 1 and 2 to these hotels. There are various other (cheaper) hotels in the immediate area of the airport. Shops and restaurants

Terminal 2 has the most extensive offering of bars and restaurants. Terminal 1 also has reasonable offerings, but Terminal three only has two bars and two fast food restaurants. The airport also has an excellent selection of stores with Terminals 1 and 2 having the largest selection.

Baggage

The airport does not have any baggage safes. They have been removed because of security risks. You can find a counter for lost and found objects in Terminal 1 (tel: +33(0)1 4862 1334) and in Terminal 2 (tel: +33(0)1 4816 6383).

Information

You can find information counters throughout the airport (tel: +33(0)1 4862 2280). There you can find, among other things, free maps of Paris and the subway.

Business

You can find the Roissy Charles de Gaulle Business Centre in Terminal 1 (tel: +33(0)1 4862 2290). There are eight conference rooms, three complete offices and a VIP lounge with facilities for telephone, fax and video conferences. Terminal 2 has three business lounges with, among other things, wireless internet.

Handicapped persons

The airport has excellent facilities for handicapped persons. You can park close to the terminals at a reduced rate. On the website for Aéroports de Paris you can find extensive information about the accessibility of the airport. If you are traveling with Air France you can contact a special service for travelers with a handicap, SAPHIR (tel: 08 2001 2424, only available in France, € 0.21 per minute).

Other services

There are First Aid stations in all terminals. You can find the central medical services in Arrivals Hall of Terminal 2, by Gate 017 (tel: +33(0)1 4862 2800 or +33(0)1 4862 5333). Furthermore, you can find cash machines, banks, and money exchanges in all terminals. Silence centres are in terminals 1, 2D and 2F. Post offices are in terminals 1 and 2A.
