Local transport

Train

There's no rail connection with Rio de Janeiro Galeão Airport.

Car and bus

The airport is situated 20 kilometers north of Rio de Janeiro's center. The airport is located on an island and there are therefore not many ways to get from Rio to the airport. You can either take the Linha Vermelha or the Avenida Brasil (freeway BR-101). The way to the airport is clearly signposted on both roads as Aeroporto Internacional Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Regular buses maintain the connection with Rio de Janeiro's center, but we recommend you take one of the express buses. The Empresa Real buses run to Santos Dumont Airport, Rio's business center and the beaches of Copacabana.

Car rental Rio de Janeiro Galeão Airport

You can find counters of car rental companies in the Arrivals Halls of both terminals. There are five rental companies, the international providers Avis, Hertz and National, and the local rental companies Localiza and Unidas. You can also book a rental car in advance using the service provided by EasyTerra; they compare the rates of several providers in a single quote.

Taxi

There are a tremendous number of taxis outside the Arrivals Hall. To avoid being harassed by tens of drivers, you better book a taxi at the Tourist Office counter in the Arrivals Hall. You pay a fixed rate which doesn't change, even if your taxi gets stuck in the sometimes busy traffic of Rio de Janeiro. The journey to Rio's center takes about 45 minutes (outside rush hour).

Airport Parking

There are large covered parking garages and parking lots with places for both short and long-term parking at both terminals. More information about parking at Rio de Janeiro Galeão Airport can be obtained via telephone number +55(0)21 398 4597.
