Brasília International Airport

The Brazilian capital's airport is called in full Brasília Presidente Juscelino Kubitschek International Airport. There are two terminals, the new Terminal 2 and the old Terminal 1. Shuttle busses connect both terminals. As at other airports in the country a lot of work will be done in the next few years to expand and improve the airport for the FIFA World Cup which will be held in Brazil in 2014. Terminal 1 will be thoroughly renovated and the number of parking places will also be substantially increased.

Train

Subway line 1 connects the airport with Brasília's center. Trains run every 20 minutes.

Car and bus

The airport is situated 11 kilometers south of the Brazilian capital. Brasília Airport is easily accessible by rental car: freeways DF-002 and DF-003 lead from the city to the DF-047 which leads to the airport. The way to the airport is clearly signposted.

City bus 102 takes thirty minutes from Brasília Airport to the city center. Smaller busses (lines 30 and 11) run to the central bus station. Long-distance busses run from that bus station to various destinations in Brazil.

Car rental Brasília Airport

Eight car rental companies are present at Brasília Airport. You can rent a car from the international companies Avis, Budget and Hertz, or from the local providers Interlocadora, Localiza, Locar Alpha, Movida and Unidas at the counter in the Arrival Hall. You can also book a rental car in advance using the service provided by EasyTerra; they compare the rates of several providers in a single quote.

Taxi

There are long lines of taxis outside the Arrivals Hall. Make sure the driver turns on the meter or agree on a clear price upfront. A ride from Brasília Airport to the city center will cost approximately 30 real and takes about 15 minutes.

Airport Parking

There's a large parking lot outside the terminal, which can accommodate more than a thousand cars. You pay 5 real for the first hour, 3 real for the second hour and then 1 real per hour. The day rate is the sum of these amounts: 31 real.

Hotels

There's no hotel at Brasília Airport. The nearest hotels are located in the southern districts of the Brazilian capital, like the Hotel Pousada Brasil (Tel. +55(0)61 3443 9000) and the Hotel Pousada do Pescador (Tel. +55(0)61 3323 8441). You have more choice in the city center, for example the Hotel Mercure Brasília Lider (Tel. +55(0)61 3426 4000) and the Carlton Hotel (Tel. +55(0)61 3224 8819).Golden Tulip Brasília Alvorada (Tel. +55(0)61 3424-7018) is a popular choice among both business travelers and tourists, because of the excellent facilities (including a conference center). Shops and restaurants

Brasília Airport has many restaurants, cafés, (snack) bars and shops. Most restaurants close at night, but two snack bars are open 24 hours a day. With over 140 shops you don't have to be bored at Brasília Airport.

Baggage

There are lockers to store your baggage. There's a lost-and-found office near the baggage claim area.

Information

Both in the Arrivals and Departure Halls there's an information desk for inquiries about the airport, flight schedules and airport services. There's also a tourist information center (Tel. +55(0)61 3364 9488) in the Arrivals Hall offering leaflets, brochures and maps. Apart from consulting employees you can also use a touch screen.

Business

Apart from a VIP lounge Brasília Airport doesn't offer business facilities. At the post office you can copy and fax, but for more extensive business facilities you need to turn to one of the business hotels in Brasília's center, like Blue Tree Park (see Hotels).

Disabled facilities

Brasília Airport has excellent accessibility for the disabled. There are wheelchair ramps, adapted elevators and toilets and also low-hanging telephones.

Other services

There are two banks, of which Banco do Brasil also serves as an exchange office. In addition there are six ATM's, a First Aid station, a post office and some travel agents.
