Belo Horizonte airport: Belo Horizonte Tancredo Neves International Airport (CNF)

Belo Horizonte Tancredo Neves International Airport

Belo Horizonte Airport is officially called Tancredo Neves International Airport, but is better known locally as Aeroporto Confins. Not too long ago this was a fairly unimportant airport, but since most flights from the nearer to the city situated Pampulha Airport have been moved to Tancredo Neves, it has become significantly more important.

For the 2014 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in Brazil, the airport will be seriously expanded and improved.

Local transport

There's no train connection between the airport and Belo Horizonte.

Car and bus

The airport is situated 45 kilometers north of the city center. The terminal is easily accessible by rental car: from Belo Horizonte's center you first follow the MG-404 and next the MG-010 which leads directly to the airport. The way to the airport is clearly signposted.

There's a regular bus service to Belo Horizonte's center, but these buses can be very crowded leaving little space for your baggage. You better take the special shuttle bus Conexão Aeroporto between the airport and the city, managed by bus company Unir (Tel. +55(0)31 3663 8000).

Car rental Belo Horizonte Airport

Eight car rental companies are present at Belo Horizonte Airport: the international rental companies Avis, Budget and Hertz and the local providers Localiza, Lokamig, Unidas, Locaralpha and Movida. You can also book a rental car in advance using the service provided by EasyTerra; they compare the rates of several providers in a single quote.

As at some other Brazilian airports, there are two types of taxis: 'normal' (comum) and 'special' (especial). Allow approximately 80 real in a normal taxi and 90 real in a special taxi for a ride to Belo Horizonte's center.

Airport Parking

Outside the terminal lies a big uncovered parking lot. You pay 4 real for the first hour, 3 real for the second hour and after that 2 real per hour. The day rate is 30 real for the first day, and after that 26 real per day.

There's no hotel at Belo Horizonte Airport. The nearest hotels are located around the recreation lake Lagoa Santa, about 6 kilometers east of the airport, including Ramada Airport Lagoa Santa (Tel. +55(0)31 3688 1000) and Hotel Antônio Maria (Tel. +55(0)31 3681 1117). About 10 kilometers south of the airport lies the resort Sitio Descanso e Lazer (Tel. +55(0)31 3621 9697). Belo Horizonte offers a large range of hotels, like the Ouro Minas Palace Hotel (Tel. +55(0)31 3429-4000) and the Clarion Hotel Lourdes (Tel. +55(0)31 3290-0933). For more hotels and to book online, you can go to They offer a large range of hotels at competitive internet rates.

Shops and restaurants

There are some restaurants, cafés and (snack) bars on the top floor of the terminal, near the observation platform. There are also some places to eat outside the terminal. There are a limited number of shops at Belo Horizonte Airport, but this number will undoubtedly be expanded when the airport will be renewed for the FIFA World Cup.

A lost and found office (Tel. +55(0)31 3689-2089) is located in the Arrivals Hall.

Both in the Arrivals and Departure Halls there are information desks (Tel. +55(0)31 3689 2700/1/2/4/5) for inquiries about Belo Horizonte Airport, flight schedules and airport services. The tourist office Belotur (Tel. +55(0)31 3689 2557) has a counter in the Arrivals Hall.

Except for basic facilities like copying and faxing the airport doesn't provide business facilities. For this you have to turn to the business hotels in Belo Horizonte (see Hotels).

Disabled facilities

Belo Horizonte Airport has good accessibility for the disabled. There are wheelchair ramps and some adapted elevators and toilets. The facilities for disabled persons will probably be further improved with the expansion of the airport for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Other services

There are banks, exchange offices and ATM's scattered around the terminals. There's also a viewing platform on the top floor. The First Aid station is located in the Arrivals Hall.
