Melbourne Airport

Melbourne Airport is, after Sydney, Australia's biggest airport and handles 25 million passengers annually. The Aussies also call it Tullamarine Airport, after its location. Melbourne has four terminals, which are connected to each other. Two terminals (T1 (Qantas) and T3) are for domestic flights. T2 is used for international flights and T4 for low budget airlines.

Train

There is no direct train to the airport. The Southern Cross station is the nearest railway station in Melbourne. There is a regular shuttle bus service to the railway station (see below).

Car and bus

The airport is located about 23 kilometers from downtown Melbourne. You can get to the airport by taking the CityLink (toll) and the Tullamarine Freeway.

The Skybus Super Shuttle runs all day (in 20 minutes) to and from the Southern Cross Station (one way is AUD 16.00). You can buy tickets at the bus stop or on line. From Southern Cross you can continue (for free) to your hotel by bus.

There are several city busses going to and from the airport. Bus service 478 runs between Moonee Ponds Junction and the airport. Service 479 runs from Moonee Ponds to Sunbury via the airport. Service 500 also stops at the airport. This bus runs between Broadmeadows station and Victoria University in Sunbury. Car rental Melbourne Airport

The car rental agencies are located on the ground floor of the short parking facility and have information desks at the arrival hall: Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Thrifty and Redspot. You can also book a car in advance at EasyTerra, this website compares several car rental agencies and their rates simultaneously.

Taxi

Taxicabs are available in front of the terminals (1, 2 and 3). A trip to Melbourne costs approximately AUD 80.00. You have to pay an additional parking fee at the airport of AUD 2.00 or 3.00. Please, only use official taxies.

Parking at the airport

The airport has five parking facilities, both indoors and outdoors. Short term parking is available in front of the terminal, 4 hours cost AUD 36.00. 7 days of parking in the parking garage near the terminal costs AUD 99.00. There is a shuttle bus stopping at all terminals, which goes to the long term parking area in 20 minutes, where you pay AUD 69.00 per week. Business Parking (in front of Terminal 1) and Express Parking (in front of T3 en T4) are cheap on weekends (AUD 79.00).

Shopping and dining

Especially terminals 2 and 3 have many shops, restaurants and (snack) bars.

Baggage

SmarteCarte baggage lockers are located on the ground floor of T2. Rate: AUD 10.00 to AUD 20.00 per item. It is also possible to have your baggage wrapped in plastic at Protectabag. Information

The terminals have service desks that have information about the airport and timetables. At the travelers' information desk in T2 (tel. +61(0)3 9297 1805) you can ask for tourist information, book trips, arrange for wheel chairs, but also inquire about lost and found items.

Business

At the Holiday Inn and the Hilton Hotel (tel. +61(0)3 8336 2000) near the airport there are Business Centers with several office and meeting rooms.

Access for disabled people

Melbourne Airport has toilets for people with reduced mobility and telephones for the hearing impaired (T2). There are especially reserved parking spaces for disabled people.
