Guadalajara International Airport

The international airport of the Mexican Guadalajara is officially called Aeropuerto Internacional Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla. It's called after the Mexican freedom fighter who started the war of independence against the Spanish.

It's the third-busiest airport of Mexico (after Mexico City Airport and Cancún Airport).

There's no train connection with Guadalajara Airport.

Car and bus

The airport is situated 17 kilometers southeast of Guadalajara. The airport is easily accessible by rental car: from Guadalajara you follow the freeway (road number 23) in the direction of Chapala. The exit to the airport is clearly signposted.

A minibus (Servicio Colectivo) leaves every half hour from the airport for Guadalajara.

You can find a counter for car rental companies in the Arrivals Hall. No less than eleven rental companies are present at Guadalajara Airport: Avis, Budget, Hertz, Europcar, Executive, National, Optima, Security, Sixt, Thrifty and U-Save. In the Arrivals Hall there are kiosks where you can book and pay for a taxi. A taxi ride to Guadalajara's center costs about 200 pesos, to Chapala or Ajijic (both on Lake Chapala) about 400 pesos. You can book a taxi via +52(0)33 3688 5925.

Airport Parking

There's a parking lot near the terminal building. For the first hour you pay 25 pesos and after that 23 pesos per hour. The rate for the first full day is 374 pesos and after that 186 pesos per day.

Shops and restaurants

There's a limited range of restaurants, cafés and (snack) bars at Guadalajara Airport. Apart from one restaurant there are some (snack) bars and coffee shops, including a Starbucks. The number of shops is also limited.


You cannot store your baggage at Guadalajara Airport. There's a lost-and-found desk in the Arrivals Hall. You can also have your baggage wrapped in plastic.


For information about the airport services you best turn to your airlines counter. There's an information desk in the Arrivals Hall, but mainly for tourist information and hotel bookings.


Apart from some basic facilities such as faxing, copying and internet access in the VIP lounge (Salón Centurion) there are no business facilities available in the terminal of Guadalajara Airport. Extensive business facilities are offered by the airport hotel Casa Grande which has meeting space and conference rooms, and by Guadalajara's business hotels (see Hotels).

Disabled facilities

Guadalajara Airport has excellent accessibility for the disabled. There are wheelchair ramps, adapted elevators and toilets, and also low-hanging telephones. On the parking lot, near the terminal entrance, places have been reserved for disabled travelers.

There are some banks, exchange offices and ATM's. Wireless internet (Wi-Fi) is available at the airport, but not for free. You can use free Wi-Fi as a customer of Burger King or the Starbucks branch at Guadalajara Airport.
