Sao Paulo international airport is situated in the district of Guarulhos. The airport got its name from a former governor of Sao Paulo state: Govenador André Franco Montoro. But the Brazilians call the airport Cumbica most of the time, after its location.

The airport has two terminals, which are at walking distance of each other (10 minutes). Annually, Cumbica handles about 19 million passengers. It is Brazil's busiest passenger airport. The airport is going to expand greatly for the 2014 World Championships of soccer and the 2016 Olympic Games.

Local transport


There is no direct train to the airport. There is a shuttle bus service to the Sao Paulo train station.

Car and bus

The airport is situated approximately 25 kilometers north east of Sao Paulo. To get to the airport, take the Ayrton Senna highway or the President Dutra highway in the direction of the airport and follow the road signs.

The red and blue Airport Bus Service runs regularly from both terminals to downtown Sao Paulo, the bus station, the domestic airport Gongonhas and to several hotels. Bus fare is BRL 24.00 and the trip will take about 40 minutes. You can buy bus tickets at the arrival hall. There are also city busses and luxury busses going to and from the airport.

Car rental Sao Paulo Guarulhos International Airport

There are several car rental agencies at Sao Paulo Airport: Avis, Budget, Localiza, Locar Alpha and Unidas. You can also book a rental car in advance at EasyTerra, this website compares prices of multiple car rental agencies.


Taxicabs are available in front of both terminals. The best thing you can do is to buy prepaid taxi vouchers at the Rio de Janeiro Tourism Agency. A trip to downtown Sao Paulo costs about BRL 85.00. If you are not buying a voucher, then please arrange for a fixed price and check if the meter is at zero.

Parking at the airport

There are several parking areas at the airport. All 3000 parking spaces are directly in front of the terminals. One hour of parking costs BRL 7.50, 4 hours BRL 13.50 and one day up to BRL 31.50.




There are no hotels in the terminals, but the Ceasar Park Hotel (tel. +55(0)11 2124 5800) is only 5 minutes away by shuttle bus. Shopping and dining

Both terminals have many shops, restaurants and (snack) bars.


Baggage storage is available at the arrival hall. Rate: BRL 7.00 up to BRL 18.00 per suitcase. You can also go here for lost and found items (tel. +55(0)11 5543 0488).


At the departure terminals there are information desks where you can find information about the airport and timetables. At the arrival hall is a tourist information desk.


At the departure hall there are several business facilities available (fax, photocopier and computers). There are also office and meeting rooms available (up to 100 people). At the various lounges there are facilities to connect your laptop.

Access for disabled people

Sao Paulo Guarulhos International Airport has toilets for people with reduced mobility and telephones for the hearing impaired. There are adapted lifts and the airport is wheelchair-friendly.

All terminals have ATMs. There is high speed and wireless internet in both terminals. You can connect your laptop in the lounges.
