Washington airport: Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)

Washington Dulles International Airport

Dulles Airport is 42 kilometers west of the American capital Washington D.C. In 2006 the number of flights strongly increased, especially by the budget airline Independence. This airline became bankrupt in 2006, through which the number of passengers declined from 27 million in 2005 to 23 million in 2006.

Expansion work is being done at the airport. When the main terminal is renovated, there will be two new parking garages and more runways constructed. Work is also being done on a system (AeroTrain) to transport travelers between the main terminals and the piers, this system will be ready in 2009.
