Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport
Bandaranaike International Airport is Sri Lanka's only international airport, but this will change. In the south of the island a second international airport is being built, Mattala International Airport, which, if all goes according to plan, will be operational in 2012.

There's no direct train connection with Colombo Airport, but there's a station nearby, Katunayaka Train Station at less than one kilometer from the terminal. Shuttle busses run between the airport and the train station, where you can take the Airport Express Train to Colombo.
Car and bus
The airport is situated in Katunayake, 35 kilometers north of the Sri Lankan capital Colombo and 8 kilometers southeast of the popular seaside resort Negombo. The airport has easy accessibility by rental car. The airport lies along freeway A3 (Peliyagoda-Puttalam Highway) between Negombo and Colombo.
At about half a kilometer you'll find shuttle buses which run to and from the bus station. From the bus station there are services to various cities, including Colombo, Negombo, Kandy and Galle.
Car rental Colombo Airport
You can find counters of car rental companies in the Arrivals Hall. There are no international rental companies present at Colombo Airport, but there are local providers like Abans and Nambo. Many rental companies only offer chauffeur-driven cars.
In the Arrivals Hall there's a kiosk where you can hire a taxi (Tel. +94(0)11 225 3097), but you pay the driver. There are fixed rates for various destinations, divided into prices for taxis with and without air-conditioning.
Directly outside the terminal there's a short-term parking lot. The long-term parking lot is a bit further out. You pay per day (or part of the day): 150 rupees for short-term parking, 50 rupees for long-term parking.

Shops and restaurants
Colombo Airport has a reasonable range of shops, including duty-free shops and many electronics shops (from televisions to washing machines and ventilators), but also shops specialized in Sri Lankan products (including the famous tea of the island). Sri Lanka Airlines has two restaurants at the airport. There are also some cafés and (snack) bars.
You cannot deposit your baggage at Colombo Airport. There's a lost-and-found desk (Tel. +94(0)11 225 3048) in the central hall. Near the terminal entrance you'll find porters who work at a set rate.
There's an information desk in both the Arrivals and Departure Halls for inquiries about Colombo Airport, flight schedules and airport services. In the Arrivals Hall you can also find travel agents and the Tourist Office.
There are no business facilities at Colombo Airport other than basic facilities like faxing, photocopying and internet access in the VIP lounge (Silk Rute Lounge). Extensive business facilities are offered by the hotels nearby the airport and the business hotels in the Sri Lankan capital (see Hotels).
Colombo Airport has good accessibility for the disabled. There are wheelchair ramps and adapted elevators and toilets.
You'll find banks, exchange offices and ATM's scattered around the terminals. There's also a post office in the Arrivals Hall. Here you can also find the First Aid station (near the baggage claim area). There are also baby rooms.
