Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD)
Chicago O’Hare Airport is located 29 kilometers to the northwest of Chicago and has four terminals. Terminal 5 is used for international flights, while the other three are divided among companies that carry out flights in North America: United Airlines, United Express, Ted, Lufthansa (Terminal 1), Air Canada, Continental, Northwest, United Express, US Airways (Terminal 2), and Alaska Airlines, American, American Eagle, Delta, Iberia, Spirit (Terminal 3). An automatic lightrail system connects these terminals with the long-term parking area (E) and the train station.
The Chicago Transit Authority (tel: +1(0)888 968 7282) is located in the car park at Terminals 1, 2 and 3. Trains of the CTA Blue Line depart for the center of Chicago every 8 or 10 minutes, 24 hours a day. The Metra North Central station is located near the long-term parking area, with connections to destinations in Lake County and Cook County.
Car and bus
Chicago O’Hare Airport is located on the I-190. From the center of Chicago, follow the I-90 (Kennedy Expressway), from the north and south of the city, follow the I-294 and from the west of Chicago, follow the I-88 and then the I-294 to get to the I-190. The exit to the airport is clearly indicated.
The bus station is located on the ground floor of the car park near Terminal 5, from where regional buses depart. The shuttle buses from Continental Airport Express (tel: +1(0)773 247 1200) depart from all terminals to the center of Chicago and destinations to the north of the city. Once an hour there is a shuttle bound for Midway Airport.
Car rental - Chicago O'Hare International Airport
The desks of the car rental companies are located at the baggage handling area in Terminals 1, 2, and 3 : Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz and National. Although they do not have a presence in Terminal 5, there are special telephones to rent a car. You can also book a car in advance at EasyTerra, which offers a comparison of several providers.
There are plenty of taxis outside all the terminals. A taxi ride to the center of Chicago takes 30-45 minutes and costs approximately $40.00, during rush hour, it may cost twice as much!
At Terminals 1, 2 and 3, there is a large car park. Level 1 is only intended for short-term parking. Rates: first hour $2.00, up 3 hours $4.00, after that $50.00 a day. On all the other levels, the rate is $26.00 a day. At the International Terminal 5, there is also a short-term car park, the first hour is $2.00, and $30.00 a day. Shops and restaurants
In the terminals there is a wide range of shops, restaurants, snack bars and cafés. There are Duty Shops in all the terminals.
It is not possible to store baggage at Chicago O’Hare Airport. For lost and found, please contact one of the desks of the Chicago Police Department on the first floor of all the terminals.
In Terminal 2, there is a Travelers Aid office, which provides information about flight schedules and the airport, it is open from Monday-Friday from 08:30-21:00, and during weekends from 10:00-21:00 (tel: +1(0)773 894 2427). There are also smaller information desks in the other terminals.
In Terminal 1, there is a so-called Laptop Lane (tel: +1(0)773 894 3100). As the name suggests, you can plug in your laptop computer, but there are also computers available, as well as fax and copying facilities. Beneath the Hilton Chicago O’Hare Airport Hotel in Terminal 2, there is a business venter with extensive business facilities, including meeting rooms and conference rooms.
Chicago O’Hare Airport has excellent facilities for disabled people. Modified elevators, toilets and wheelchair slopes, text telephones and wheelchair assistance. The automatic train system ATS is accessible to wheelchairs. There are exchange offices and ATM's throughout the terminals. There is a medical center of the University of Illinois in Terminal 2 (tel: +1(0)773 894-5100), tn the same terminal, there is a Children’s Museum and a play area. Wireless internet is available.
