General information and regulations

The vast United States are perfect for long and extensive trips by car. The relatively low price of gasoline, the excellent connections and wide roads ensure unforgettable trips throughout the country of unlimited possibilities. The comfort of driving was born out of necessity as the distances are immense. Road signs show miles and one mile is about 1.6 km.

In order to rent a car in the US you have to be 21 years old and have held your license for 1 year. Drivers under the age of 25 may incur a young driver surcharge. Please note that the speed limit differs from state to state, another point of attention is the fact that drivers pass along the left and right side on many roads. Pay good attention to this and do not switch lanes too often, or as the Americans say: 'Keep your lane!'.

Driving in the United States with a rental car

The most important cities in the US are located on the west and east coast. Along the west coast, you will find cities such as Los Angeles and San Francisco, along the east coast New York and Washington DC.

A nice trip is driving from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. The drive will be approximately 435 km on the Interstate 15 and leads past beautiful scenery. Driving on the legendary Vegas Strip is an experience as well.

If New York is your starting point, you can choose to visit Niagara Falls. This natural phenomenon at the border of Canada is situated at 500 km northeast from the largest US city. The trip will run right through the state of New York and will take about 5 hours to complete.

Adventurous travelers can decide to go 'Coast to Coast', through the Appalachian Mountains, the endless Great Plains and the rugged Rocky Mountains, a legendary experience albeit far...very far. The 5,000 km drive goes via the famous Route 66, nearly 4,000 km between Chicago and Los Angeles.
