Zagreb Airport (ZAG)

The Zagreb airport (Zracna luka) is 14 kilometers southeast of the Croatian capital. The airport is also called Pleso Airport and is a military airport as well as a civilian airport. In 2006 1.6 million travelers used this airport.

In order to capture the strong increase in passenger numbers there are many expansions planned for the coming years. A new terminal will come with an attached luxury hotel. The old terminal will then be used only for budget airline flights. A second runway will also come. Furthermore, the infrastructure will be improved with the construction of a new access road and a train connection with Zagreb.

The prices here are given in the Croatian kuna (HRK). € 1.00 = HRK 7.36 (January 2007).

Local transport

Train

There is no train connection with the airport yet. It is not known when the planned rail connection (see introduction) will be completed.

Car and bus

The airport is 14 kilometers southwest of Zagreb.

The bus station is right in front of the exit for the International Arrivals Hall. Every half hour between 07:00 and 20:00 a bus goes to the central bus station (Autobusni kolodvor) in Zagreb. Outside of these times buses run in connection with arriving and departing airplanes. The travel time to the centre of Zagreb is approximately 25 minutes. A ticket costs HRK 30.00. Car rental Zagreb Airport

There are counters for many car rental companies including Adria Rent, An Nova, Avis, Europcar, Hertz, National/Alamo, Thrifty, Uni Rent and Sixt. You can also reserve a rental car in advance using the service EasyTerra provides. They compare the rates of several providers in a single quote.

Taxi

Taxis are in front of the Arrivals Hall (tel: +385(0)1 660 0671). The starting rate is officially HRK 19.00, and then you pay HRK 7.00 per kilometer and HRK 3.00 for baggage. You can easily pay HRK 200 or more for a ride to the centre of Zagreb. Clearly agree to a price before you get in. Between 22:00 and 05:00 and on Sundays and holidays there is a 20% extra charge.

Airport Parking

The number of parking places at Zagreb Airport is limited. There are three parking areas with a total number of places for only 550 cars. For P1 and P3 you pay HRK 10.00 per hour, for P2 HRK 7.00 per hour. Information about parking is available at tel: +385(0)1 456 2456.

Services

Hotels

There are no hotels at the airport. Hotels in the area include Hotel Aristos (tel: +385(0)1 669 5900) and Sheraton Zagreb (tel: +385(0)1 455 3535). For more hotels and reserving online you can go to Booking.com. They have a large offering of hotels with great internet rates.

Shops and restaurants

The offering of shops and eating and drinking places is limited. There is a restaurant (‘Faust Vrancic’) on the first level. Furthermore there are three bars: one in the International Arrivals Hall, one in the International Departures Hall and one in the Domestic Arrivals Hall.

Baggage

There is an office for lost and found items in the Central Hall (opened from 08:00 – 20:00, tel: +385(0)1 456 2229). You can also store baggage there.

Information

There is a service counter in the Central Hall. There is also a tourism information office.

Business

There are services such as fax, telephone and internet in the business lounge ‘Zrinjevac’. The VIP Lounge has three meeting rooms which can be combined into one large room. You can reserve the VIP Lounge at tel: +385(0)1 456 2113.

Handicapped persons

The airport is reasonably accessible for handicapped persons. There are wheelchair ramps and there is one adapted restroom in the Central Hall. You can ask for assistance at the general information counter.

Other services

The bank (Zagrebacka banka, tel: +385(0)1 456 2414) is open from 07:00 until 21:00. The post office in the terminal has the same opening times. First Aid is available at the service counter.
