Hotels in Zurich city center
Zurich is Switzerland's financial heart and the hotel sector therefore focuses mainly on travelers with a heavy purse. There is a large supply of accommodation in the four and five-star category.
The Dolder Grand, located on the Zürichberg on the south side of the city, is literally and figuratively speaking Zurich's top hotel. The hotel looks like a castle and dates back to 1899. It was reopened in 2008 following a thorough renovation of many years. The also posh Baur au Lac Hotel near the Quaibrücke is more centrally located.
Hotel zum Storchen is located directly on the river, but only the rooms on the front side have a view of the water. It's cheaper to stay at the midrange design hotel Greulich, which is built around a pleasant courtyard. The rooms at Hotel Otter each have their own theme, such as a Jungle Room where you sleep in a hammock.
Hotel Florhof is a charming, small hotel in a central location. Hotel Opera is even more centrally located, but also much more expensive. A budget friendly option is the Hotel Continental, not far from the old city center. The traditional Hotel Kindli, near the posh shops on the Bahnhofstrasse, is a favorite on the left bank of the Limmat, where it's much quieter than in the old center.
Near the station you'll find the budget friendly, but excellent Dakini's Bread & Breakfast. The rooms have been beautifully decorated with art. Although Zurich is an expensive city, there are more budget accommodations to be found, such as City Backpacker en Martahaus. Another budget option: camping on one of the campsites south of the city, such as Camping Waldhof and Camping Seebucht.
