Car rental Canada

General information and regulations

To rent a car, you must be at least 21 years old (age may vary by car category) and have held your licence for one year. An international drivers'licence is recommended and seatbelts are mandatory.Distances are shown in kilometres.

The roads are excellent and outside the crowded region around Toronto, Montréal and capital Ottawa, one will notice the tranquility on the road. Speed limits vary per county and alcohol usage is heavily prohibited (and monitored). The penalty for drinking & driving is severe.

Please note the fact that Canada is a bilingual country; in the Quebec region you can expect road signs in French.

Driving in Canada with a rental car

The immense Canada is the second largest country in the world (besides Russia) and invites visitors to make beautiful trips through the lush scenery. Almost any city of importance is located in the South (against the US border), the more North one travels, the rougher the terrain.

A nice trip leads from Montréal to Quebec, 250 to the North-East. This harbour town has a beautiful historical centre and, something which is unique in the North-Americas region, an ancient city wall. The ride will take no more than 3 hrs and is well worth it.

Due South-East of Montréal lies Ottawa. The distance is 165 km(from Montréal) and the capital city, with its governmental buildings, can be reached within 2 hrs. For those who enjoy the outdoors, a trip due North is recommended, an oasis of lush scenery and tranquility awaits you here.

Renting a car in Canada

The airport of Montréal harbors car rental companies such as Alamo, Avis, Budget,Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty. You can arrange car rental through EasyTerra as well. This website compares several local companies simultaneously.
