Driving on Malta with a rental car
Malta is divided over 3 islands. The biggest island carries the collective title of Malta and the airport is situated here as well, South of capital Valletta. Malta does not have a characteristic scenery and barely any mountains or rivers. The main features of Malta consist of harbours, cliffs and beaches. In the North-East you can find sandy beaches.
The remarkable collective of three fortified cities consists of Cospicua, Senglea and Vittoriosa (The 'Three Cities'). The cities are surrounded by walls that were built in the 17th century. Furthermore, the seven Megalithic Temples of Malta (dating back to the Bronze age) are scattered around the islands Gozo and Malta.
Another area of interest is Maltese capital Valletta, at a short distance from the airport. The city has a nice harbour and is listed as World Heritage Site under UNESCO since 1980.
