Car rental Denmark

General information and regulations

In order to rent a car, you must be at least 21 years old (age may vary by car category) and have held your licence for 1 year. Drivers under the age of 25 may incur a young driver surcharge.

Traffic travels on the right and seatbelts are mandatory. The speed limit is as follows: 31mph/50kph in cities, 49mph/80kph on open roads and 68mph/110kph on highways (although in certain areas 130 kph).

Flashing your lights suggests the desire that you want others to pass, so beware of this. Headlights have to be turned on at all times, pay attention to this!

Driving in Denmark with a rental car

Copenhagen is connected to Malmö by means of the Oresund bridge. Trips to Sweden are therefore easily arranged. The island of Zealand has excellent connections to the rest of Denmark because of the many bridges and ferries.

A city such as Roskilde is situated at 32 km from Copenhagen, thus easy to reach. The city of Roskilde used to be the capital of Sweden (around the year 1400) and in the (dome)church of the city, the rulers of Denmark have been buried since the Middle ages. Århus is a famous attraction as well. The city is situated at 157 km from Copenhagen, on the mainland (Jutland). The city of Odense can be found on the Funen island and is the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen. In addition, there are many museums here and a 13th century (dome)church. Odense is situated at 142 km from Copenhagen.

Denmark is part of the smaller Scandinavian countries although ferries tend to extend the distances a bit (ferries are slow). Denmark is mainly known for its LEGO production. In Billund you can find the factory as well as a LEGO-themepark. Billund is located at the mainland, 220 km from Copenhagen.

Renting a car in Denmark

There are several car rental companies at the airport of Copenhagen, some of these include Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt.

Another option is renting a car through EasyTerra , a website which compares the rates of multiple car rental companies for your convenience.
