In general the roads are good although in some urban areas you have to pay attention to gravel roads and pebblestone roads.

Driving in the Czech Republic with a rental car

The total length of the roads in the Czech Republic is 55,500 km and only a small percentage consists of highway. There is a highway from Prague to Brno and it is called the D1. The distance between these cities is only 185 km and therefore easy to drive within a day. Brno has a couple of charming castles and contemporary architectural beauty. The city is known for "Ignis Brunensis", a fireworks contest which draws 200,000 visitors annually.

The Czech Republic has many UNESCO World Heritage Sites and most of these sites are well worth a visit. Not only the historical centre of Prague but Ceský Krumlov (gothic style, Renaissance and Baroque at 142 from Prague), Telc (many castles and churches at 125 km from Prague) and Kutná Hora (62 km from Prague, the beautiful 'Silver city' of Bohemia) are all perfect daytrips.

Last but not least, the town of Kromeríž, at 230 km from Prague, with the Baroque Kromeríž Bishop's Palace and park. There are impressive flower gardens at the castle.
