Car rental Morocco

General information and regulations

Morocco has an extensive network of roads, covering approximately 60,000 km. Distances are shown in kilometres and road signs are in French and Arabic. In order to rent a car you have to be 23 years and have held your licence for 2 years (this may differ per company). An international drivers licence can be necessary at certain companies.

Although few people obey these rules, the speed limit in urban areas is 19mph/30kph. However, the rules of the road are different and traffic rules seem non-existent in most cities. The speed limit on local roads and highways is 60mph/100kph.

Traffic travels on the right and seatbelts are mandatory. Children have to sit in the back at all times.

Driving in Morocco with a rental car

The extensive network of road is perfect for trips through the Atlas mountain range. Please note that rented cars cannot cross the border of Morocco.

The country is about 1,288 km in length (from North to South) and about 805 km from East to West. Trips & tours depend on the city of arrival as Morocco is a large country. From Marrakech to Casablanca is a nice trip when driving for 1 day and a journey from Tanger or Ceuta will take a little longer. A nice trip is the one from Marrakech to Casablanca (about 220 km) and to Fes or Meknes the next day (another 250 km). This way, you can visit both the tourist region of Morocco (Marrakech and Agadir) as well as the cultural region (Fes and Meknes).

Renting a car in Morocco

When you rent a car you can choose from the many car rental companies at the airport. You can use the services of Avis, Budget, Europcar and Hertz.

Another option is booking a car through EasyTerra. This way, the rates of local car rental companies are compared for your convenience.
