Rotterdam Airport (RTM)

Rotterdam Airport was originally named Vliegveld Zestienhoven (Sixteen Courts Airport). The airport was opened in 1956 and was initially reasonably successful. In the 70s the airport was less successful and was almost closed down. The tide turned with the economic recovery in the 90s and it was decided to keep the airport in the same place.

At and around the airport there is work being done on developing the RTM Airpark, a luxurious office location. The project should be finished in 2020.

Rotterdam Airport is the most important regional airport in the Netherlands and processes more than one million passengers annually.

Local transport

Train

The airport does not have a train or subway connection.

Car and bus

The airport is along the A13 in the direction of The Hague. Follow the exit Rotterdam Airport (11). On the website you can download a route description.

Bus line 33 leaves on average every ten minutes from the airport to Rotterdam Central Station. The cost is € 2.70 with a so called “uurnetkaart”.

Car rental Rotterdam Airport

There are car rental counters from Avis, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt. Budget does not have a counter at Rotterdam Airport, but you can call and reserve a car and pick it up at the airport (+31(0)10 415 18 33). You can also reserve a rental car in advance using the service EasyTerra provides. They compare the rates of several providers in a single quote.

Taxi

Taxis at the Rotterdam Airport are at the Arrivals Hall (tel: +31(0)10 262 04 06). The rates to the centre of Rotterdam are approximately € 20 – 25, to Rotterdam Brainpark € 35, to Rotterdam-Botlek € 55, and to The Hauge is € 45.

Airport Parking

There are three parking lots. P1 and P3 are meant for long term parking. Rates: first day € 15.00, two days € 20.00, a week € 37.00, two weeks € 58.00. Close to the terminal is P2 which is for short term parking. Rates: first hour € 4.00, every half hour after that is € 1.00 (with a maximum of € 30.00 for 24 hours). Services

Hotels

Opposite the entrance of the airport is the Regardz Airport Hotel Rotterdam (tel: +31(0)10 462 55 66). A shuttle bus goes to this hotel. Other hotels in the area are Hilton Rotterdam (tel: +31(0)10 710 80 00) and Ibis Rotterdam Vlaardingen (tel: +31(0)10 460 20 50). For more hotels and reserving online you can go to Booking.com. They have a large offering of hotels with great internet rates.

Shops and restaurants

There is one shop at the airport called the Rotterdam Airport Shop (tel: +31(0)10 415 07 93). They specialize in perfumes and typical Dutch souvenirs.

There are two restaurants. In the Departures Hall you can find the self service restaurant De Basseri. On the first level is the á la carte restaurant Horizon (tel: +31(0)10 437 35 54), that is accessible for everyone. The restaurant is adjacent to the Panorama terrace.

In the passage hall, the central hall at the front of the building, is the AKO Shop. The AKO Shop offers a vast assortment of national and international books, magazines, newspapers, comics and various other items.

Baggage

Baggage safes are in the central hall (by the elevator near restaurant Horizon). Rate: € 4.00 per 24 hours (small safe) or € 6.00 per 24 hour (large safe). If your luggage is lost you can contact the baggage handling company Aviapartner (tel. +31(0)10 238 27 01). On the first floor is the office for lost and found items (tel: +31(0)10 446 34 50).

Information

The information counter is in the Arrivals Hall (tel: +31(0)10 446 34 44) where you can get help in booking a hotel or tickets for bus tours to London.

Behind the car rental counters is the travel agency Travel Slide (tel: +31(0)10 245 09 55) that specializes in trips from the Rotterdam Airport. If you book a trip here you may park for free in the long term parking area.

Business

The airport has a conference room for up to 30 persons. You can get information about it through the general telephone number. The Golden Tulip Rotterdam Airport Hotel (see Hotels section) offers other possibilities with conference halls for up to 1000 persons.

The KLM Jet Center (tel: +31(0)10 298 49 49) handles private flights and offers VIP facilities for business travelers.

The Rotterdam Airport Lounge in the Departures Hall is accessible for holders of a Priority Pass and for travelers who have received an entrance card from their airline. You can also buy an entrance card for € 18.50.

Handicapped Persons

The airport is very accessible for handicapped travelers. There are automatic doors, adapted elevators and restrooms, lowered curbs and reserved parking spaces for handicapped travelers.

Other services

GWK Travelex provides services dealing with foreign currencies. The airport also has cash machines as well as wireless internet.
