Zurich Airport (ZRH)

The Zurich Airport is also well known as Flughafen Kloten, after the place where there airport is situated. In 2003 the renovation activities were completed. A new terminal was built and an automatic train connection was set up with the old terminal. A new parking garage was also opened.

Local transport

Train

There is a train station under Terminal B. Local, regional and inter-city trains stop there. There are direct connections with Winterthur, Bern, Basel and Luzerne. From the Hauptbahnhof in Zurich there are connections with many other places in Switzerland.

Car and bus

The airport is 12 kilometers north of Zurich and is easily accessible from Zurich, Bern and Basel via the A20. The exit to the airport is clearly indicated.

The bus station is behind parking garages 2 and 3. Many local and regional bus lines leave from there. There are also bus connections to stops on the S-Bahn (Balsberg, S-Bahn 7 and Glattbrug S-Bahn 5). At night there is an express bus to several destinations in Switzerland.

Car rental Airport

In parking garage 2 you can find counters from the car rental companies Alamo/National, Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt. You can also reserve a rental car in advance using the service EasyTerra provides. They compare the rates of several providers in a single quote.

Taxi

Taxis are outside the Arrivals Hall (tel: +41(0)848 850 852). A ride to the centre of Zurich takes about 15 minutes and costs approximately CHF 50.

Parking

Parking garages P1, P2 and P3 have in total places for 6000 cars and a direct connection with the terminal. Rate: CFH 4 for the first half hour, CFH 6 for the first hour then CFH 3 per hour. The garage P5 is a bit further away and P40 and P60 are parking areas. Here you pay CFH 28 per day, CFH 60 for three days. After that the prices for P60 are somewhat lower than those for P5 and P40.

There are many hotels by the Zurich Airport. The nearest are Hilton Zurich Airport (tel: +41(0)1 828 5050) and Novotel Zurich Airport Messe (tel: +41(0)1 829 9000). Shops and restaurants

The Zurich Airport has a very large offering of cafes, snack bars and restaurants, both before and after customs. There is also a large offering of shops. Switzerland is not a member of the European Union so passengers from EU countries can purchase tax free items here. On the airport website you can download a brochure with current offers.

Baggage

At the Service Center (tel: +41(0)43 816 8600) in the Central Hall you can store baggage. There are also baggage safes that you can self operate. In the Baggage halls there are windows for lost and found items.

Information

You can find information counters spread throughout the airport. In addition there are many computer screens (FASTpoint) that include information about the airport, flights and public transportation.

Business

The Unique Conference Center (tel: +41(0)43 816 3422) has extensive business facilities. There are no less than 36 offices and meeting rooms for maximum 120 persons. Furthermore, the centre offers facilities such as fax, copy, telephone, secretarial support and translation services. You can also reserve flights and hotel rooms there.

Handicapped services

Zurich Airport is excellently accessible for handicapped persons. There are wheelchair ramps and adapted elevators, restrooms and telephones. In P2 there are parking places reserved for handicapped persons. In the Departure Halls there are service counters for passengers that need assistance.

Other services

There are many banks, money exchange offices and cash machines. By the nine offices of FASTpoint you can use the internet, telephone and fax. Wireless internet is available. The medical centre of the airport is established in the office building by parking garage P1. First Aid can be called through Service Center (tel: +41 (0)43 816 6000). The pharmacy is available at telephone number +41 (0)43 816 2000. Moreover, there is a silence centre (+41(0)43 816 5757).
