Gran Canaria Airport (LPA)

Gran Canaria Airport is, concerning business, the fifth largest airport in Spain. It is 18 kilometers from the capital Las Palmas and 25 kilometers from the popular beaches on the south side of the island. There are three terminals. The zones are: Zone A for EU flights, Zone B for other international flights and Zone C for flights to and from other Canary Islands. The airport processes about ten million passengers per year.

Local transport

Train

No trains operate on the Canary Islands.

Car and bus

The airport is along the main road on the island, GC1, which goes to the south from Las Palmas. The exit to the airport is clearly indicated.

Busses leave from the bus station to several destinations on Gran Canaria. Bus line 60 goes to the capital Las Palmas (Parque de San Catalina and Parque de San Telmo), bus line 66 goes to Faro de Maspalomas. More information with the bus company Global (tel: +34(0)902 381 110).

Car rental Gran Canaria Airport

In the Arrivals Hall (between zones A and B) there are counters from car rental companies Auto Reisen, Avis, Cicar, Europcar/Betacar, Hertz and Record. You can also reserve a rental car in advance using the service EasyTerra provides. They compare the rates of several providers in a single quote.

Taxi

Taxis are outside of the Arrivals Hall (tel: +34(0)928 703 800), and all of them have a meter. An indication of the prices: Las Palmas de Gran Canaria: € 20.00, Playa del Inglés: € 28.00, Maspalomas: € 32.00, Puerto de Mogán: € 50.00.

Airport Parking

There are about 1500 parking places in total. The first half hour of parking is free. The second half hour costs € 0.50, then € 0.90 per hour with a maximum of € 9.00 per day. From the fifth day you pay € 7.20 per day.

Services

Hotels

There are no hotels at the airport. The nearest hotel is the Elba Vecindario Aeropuerto Gran Hotel (tel: +34(0)902 172 182). There is a counter for hotel reservations in the Arrivals Hall. For more hotels and reserving online you can go to Booking.com. They have a large offering of hotels with great internet rates.

Shops and restaurants

There is a reasonable offering of shops, restaurants, snack bars and cafés. Most of them can be found in Zone A. Zones B and C have a limited offering.

Baggage

The counter for lost and found items can be found on the second level between Zones B and C (tel: +34(0)928 579 130).

Information

You can find an information counter in all zones. The tourism bureau is represented in Arrivals Hall A (EU-flights, tel: +34(0)928 574 117).

Business

There is a meeting room for maximum five persons by the connection between Zones A and B. Reservations can be made through tel: +34(0)928 579 005. The Sala Galdós VIP lounge has free entrance for business class travelers, but others must pay € 15.00. The Vecindario Aeropuerto Gran Hotel (see Hotels) has extensive facilities for business travelers, including ten rooms for meetings and conferences (up to 800 persons).

Handicapped persons

The terminal is excellently accessible for handicapped persons. There are wheelchair ramps and adapted elevators, restrooms and telephones. There are 48 parking places reserved for handicapped persons right in front of the terminal.

Other services

There are banks, money exchange offices and cash machines. There is also a post office. Furthermore, you can find many tour operators in the Arrivals Hall. There is a children’s play area and there are special baby changing rooms. In the Departures Hall A (EU-flights) there is an internet café. The First Aid post is on the ground level of Zone A (tel: +34(0)928 579 123).
