Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport (WAW)

The countries in East Europe are more and more popular as destinations for short vacations. Poland and the capital Warsaw are no exception. The airport is not designed for a strong growth in the number of travelers. Therefore, a second terminal is being built. At the beginning of 2007 only the Arrivals Hall was ready. At the end of 2007 the whole Terminal 2 will be in use.

Next to these two terminals there is a separate terminal for budget airlines, ‘Etiuda’. These flights will probably use another airport from 2008. A military airport north of Warsaw is renovated for that.

Local transport

Train

There is no train connection with the airport.

Car and bus

The airport is ten kilometers southwest of Warsaw. From the centre of the city you follow the road Zwirki í Wigury, which leads directly to the airport.

Between the terminal and the parking garage there is a bus station. The bus lines 175 and 188 go to the centre of Warsaw (ex. train station and the old city, travel time about 30 minutes). Furthermore, there are express busses from Intercity Polski Express to more than 30 destinations in Poland.

Car rental Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport

In the Arrivals Hall there are counters for the car rental companies Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz and National. You can also reserve a rental car in advance using the service EasyTerra provides. They compare the rates of several providers in a single quote.

Taxi

Taxis are in front of the Arrivals Hall. In the Hall you are frequently approached by unofficial tax drivers. The airport warns against going with them. There are three taxi companies that may bring passengers to and from the airport: Merc Taxi (tel: +48(0)22 677 77 77), MPT Radio Taxi (tel: +48(0)22 9191) and Sawa Taxi (tel: +48(0)22 644 44 44).

Airport Parking

Garage P1 is for short term parking and has places for 1500 cars (first hour PLN 7.00, then PLN 5.00 per hour after that). Parking area P2 is also intended for short term parking (PLN 5.00 per hour, from the third hour PLN 4.00 per hour to a maximum of PLN 46.00 for the first day, then PLN 25.00 per day after that). Services

Hotels

In the Departures Hall the Falcon Transit Hotel (tel: +48(0)22 650 4891) has eight simple rooms. Close to the terminal is the Courtyard by Marriott (tel: +48(0)22 650 0100). Along the road to Warsaw are two other hotels: Gromada Hotel (1 km from the airport, tel: +48(0)22 609 9600) and Novotel (2 km, tel: +48(0)22 846 4051). Shops and restaurants

The airport has a reasonable offering of shops and eating and drinking places. There are two restaurants and a few snack bars and cafes. This applies for Terminal 1, in the budget terminal Etiuda there is only one snack bar. There are also machines with warm and cold drinks and snacks.

Baggage

You can find a counter in the Arrivals Hall for lost and found items. At that same window you can store baggage (tel: +48(0)22 650 4122).

Information

In the Departures Hall there is a combined information point for the airport, customs and the Polish airline LOT. In the Arrivals Hall there is a general service counter that also provides tourist information and makes hotel reservations (tel: +48(0)22 650 9431).

Business

The airport has two business lounges: ‘Fantasia’ (tel: +48(0)22 650 2765) and ‘Preludium’ (tel: + 48(0)22 650 2768). For reservations and booking you can contact the on duty manager at the airport (tel: +48(0)22 650 3525).

Handicapped persons

The terminal is reasonably accessible for handicapped persons. There are adapted elevators and restrooms, but reaching the mezzanine can be difficult. Moreover, you can ask personnel for help.

Other services
