Oslo Airport, Gardermoen (OSL)

The Oslo Airport is 50 kilometers north of the capital of Norway. It is a very modern airport (opened in 1998) and is the most important airport in Norway. The other airport in Oslo – Sandefjord Airport – is used especially by budget airlines.

The prices here are given in the Norwegian krone (NOK). € 1.00 = NOK 8.33 (January 2007).

Local transport

Train

An express train – Gardermobanen – leaves the airport six times per hour to the centre of Oslo (travel time: 20 minutes, tel: +47(0)815 00 777). Furthermore, all regular trains (tel: +47(0)815 00 888) on the Skien-Oslo-Lillehammer-Trondheim line also stop at the airport.

Car and bus

The airport is accessible by the motorway E6. Follow the signs to ‘Gardermoen’. Take the E6 to the 174 directly to the airport.

The special SAS Airport Bus goes from the airport to the Central Station in Oslo and further on to the Radisson Scandinavia Hotel (travel time about 40 minutes). At night a bus goes to the bus terminal in Oslo. Express busses from NOR-WAY Bussekspress maintain a connection between the airport and Oslo, Bærum, Fredrikstad, Skien and Gjøvik. The terminal for other regional busses is next to the train station.

Car rental Oslo Airport

In the Arrivals Hall, close to the train station, you can find counters for the car rental companies Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz and Statoil. You can also reserve a rental car in advance using the service EasyTerra provides. They compare the rates of several providers in a single quote.

Taxi

Taxis are outside the Arrivals Hall (tel: +47(0)23 23 23 23). There are several taxi companies which all use a fixed price. You can best order a taxi at the special information counter in the Arrivals Hall. Taxi2 (tel: +47(0)2202) charges NOK 395 for each destination in Oslo.

Airport Parking

There are 3500 parking places in the covered parking garage directly next to the terminal. Furthermore, there are 8000 places available in the parking areas P1 through P5. Hotels

The Radisson SAS Airport Hotel Oslo (tel: +47(0)63 933 000) is within walking distance of the airport. Other hotels in the area are the Quality Hotel Gardermoen Airport (tel: +47(0)63 926 100), the Norlandia Oslo Airport Hotel (tel: +47(0)63 94 95 00) and the Clarion Hotel Oslo Airport (tel: +47(0)63 94 94 94). A shuttle bus goes to both of the hotels. You can reserve hotel rooms at the service counter in the Arrivals Hall. For more hotels and reserving online you can go to Booking.com. They have a large offering of hotels with great internet rates.

Shops and restaurants

The airport has the largest duty free shop in Europe. Norway is not a member of the European Union and therefore can sell tax free items to all international travelers. This service is also available to arriving travelers (right next to the Baggage Hall). There are many other shops and there is also a large offering of restaurants, cafés, (snack) bars and fast food chains.

Baggage

There is a window for lost and found items opposite the train station. You can also store baggage there and hire porters (tel: +47(0)64 810 444).

Information

There is a general service counter in the Arrivals Hall (tel: +47(0)81 550 250). The personnel have information about the airport and tourist sights in the surrounding area. You can also reserve hotels there.

Business

At the service counter in the Arrivals Hall you can fax, use the telephone and copy. Extensive business facilities are available at the Radisson SAS Airport Hotel Oslo (see Hotels). There are offices, meeting rooms and conference halls to rent. Furthermore, the hotel offers facilities for video conferences, secretarial support and catering.

Handicapped persons

The airport is excellently accessible for handicapped persons. There are wheelchair ramps and adapted restrooms, elevators and telephones. For assistance you can contact the general service counter 24 hours per day. (tel: +47(0)81 550 250). For adapted taxis you can call tel: +47(0)23 232 323. You can also arrange this through the taxi counter in the Arrivals Hall.

Other services

You can find money exchange offices and cash machines throughout the terminal. Wireless internet is available. There is a travel agency in the Departures Hall. First Aid can be called through the service counter or at tel: +47(0)64 81 38 00.
