Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE)

Like most Italian airports this airport is also named after a hero from history: explorer Marco Polo lived in Venice from 1254 to 1324. The distance from the airport to Venice depends on your mode of transportation: by land 12 kilometers, by water 10 kilometers.

There is also a second, much smaller airport by Venice in Treviso, 40 kilometers from the city. That is used by budget airlines (Transavia, Ryanair).

Local transport

Train

There is no train connection with the airport, but the FlyBus goes to the train station Venezia-Mestre from the terminal. There is also a bus connection with the station Venezia-Santa Lucia.

Car and bus

The airport is 12 kilometers outside of Venice along the SS14 to Trieste. The airport is clearly indicated on the traffic signs. From the Tangenziale (ring road) Venezia-Mestre you go right to the SS14. After about 300 meters there is a left exit to the airport.

In front of the Arrivals Hall there are busses from two companies ACTV, (tel. +39(0)41 2722111) and ATVO (tel: +39(0)421 383672) which both bring you to the centre of Venice. Furthermore, there are regular busses to the train station Mestre, Padua and the beach resorts by Venice.

Of course there are possibilities to go to Venice by water, for example with Alilaguna (tel: +39(0)4 1541 5180) or ATVO (tel: +39(0)4 1541 6555). For both water bus companies tickets are available in the Arrivals Hall.

Car rental Venice Marco Polo Airport

You can find counters in the Arrivals Hall for 10 car rental companies: AutoEuropa, Avis, Easy Car, Hertz, Europcar, Locauto Tirreno, Maggiore, Targa Rent, Travelcar and Thrifty. You can also reserve a rental car in advance using the service EasyTerra provides. They compare the rates of several providers in a single quote.

Taxi

Taxis are in front of the Arrivals Hall (tel: +39(0)41 5952080). Private water taxis (tel: +39(0)4 1541 5084) can be reserved online.

Airport Parking

There are two short term parking areas in front of the new terminal (P5, € 2.00 per hour and P6, € 5.00 per hour). There are two parking garages in front of the old terminal (P1 and P4) with a large parking area (P2) behind them. You pay € 5.00 for 2 hours parking or € 13.50 for 24 hours. Long term parking is in P7 (2 days € 21.00, one week € 58.50) that lies some distance from the terminal, but there is a shuttle bus connection. Hotels

There are not hotels at the airport. The nearest hotels are in the suburbs Mestre and Tessera, but Venice is also very close to the airport. Most visitors choose a hotel in Venice, especially around the Piazzale Roma, where the road from the mainland comes in. In this district you are 20 minutes from the airport. Shops and restaurants
There is a large offering of shops, including a few specialized in local products. Snack bars, cafes and restaurants are also largely present. Of course there are a lot of coffee shops that serve real Italian espresso or cappuccino.

There is a counter for lost and found items in the Arrivals Hall (tel: +39(0)41 713719).

In the Departures Hall there is a counter where you can get information about the airport, arrival and departure times and delays (tel: +39(0)4 1260 9260). There is also a computer system that you can call for arrival times (tel: +39(0)4 1260 9240) and departure times (tel: +39(0)4 1260 9250).

There is also a tourist counter in the Arrivals Hall (tel: +39(0)4 1541 5887).

Business

The Travelex Business Centre (tel: +39(0)4 1269 8191) has meeting rooms and facilities for conferences. There are small office spaces to rent and the centre also offers secretarial support, including translation services. Meeting rooms with telephone, fax, video and slide projector are also available in the VIP Lounge (tel: +39(0)4 1260 6285).

Handicapped persons

The whole airport is accessible for handicapped persons. There are wheelchair ramps and adapted restrooms, telephones and elevators. Wheelchairs are available.

Other services

The airport offers the customary services such as banks, money exchange offices, cash machines and a post office (where you can send faxes). There is wireless internet (WiFi) available at various points in the terminal. Furthermore, Venice Airport has a prayer room, a First Aid post (tel: +39(0)41 2606335) and a sauna/massage salon.
