Chania Airport

Chania International Airport Ionnis Daskologiannis is one of Crete's three airports. It is named after an 18th century Greek freedom fighter. The airport is situated in western Crete, on a peninsula east of Chania. Yearly, Chania Airport handles approximately 1.5 million travelers. It is also a military airport. Many Americans visit their family on a nearby military basis, but the Chania area is also very popular with tourists.

Local transport

Car and bus

The airport is situated approximately 15 kilometers east of Chania. It is well indicated on road signs (Aerodromio) near the Souda bay.

There is a bus stop just outside the airport. The bus to Chania only costs 1 Euro, but runs very irregularly.

Taxicabs are available in front of the airport. A trip to Chania costs approximately EUR 15.00 and takes 20 minutes. It's best to agree on a price. It's also possible to book a taxi on line.

Parking at the airport

In front of the airport there are paid and free parking spaces (tel. +30(0)282 106 6190). There is a shuttle bus, which runs to and from the long term parking area, just outside the airport.
