Athens Airport

Athens Airport (ATH)
Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport – the official name of the Athens Airport – is a very modern airport. It opened in 2001 and is the most important intersection for the Balkans and the Middle East. The airport processes about 13 million travelers per year.
There are two terminals – the “Main Terminal” and the “Satellite Terminal” – that are connected underground with each other.
The airport is 33 kilometers southeast of Athens.
Local transport
Train
The metro leaves every 30 minutes to the centre of the Greek capital (Syntagma Plein). You can change trains there if you want to go to Omonia Plein or Makriani. You must go further if you want to go to the station Monastiraki. You can change there to Line 1 to Piraeus.
There is also a city train connection to the station Larissis. Trains leave from there to all destinations on the Greek mainland.
Car and bus
At the same time the new airport was built, new roads were also built. It is now easy to avoid the traffic in Athens. For routes to the south, you follow the signs to Elefsina. For routes to the north you follow the signs to Thessaloniki. The toll way Attiki Odos connects the airport with the western districts of Athens.
Busses are outside the Arrivals Hall (by exits 4 and 5). Line E94 goes directly to the subway station Ethniki, Line E95 goes to Syntagma Plein and Line E96 goes to the harbour Piraeus. A new bus line, E93, connects the airport with the central bus station on Kiffisou Street. A bus line has also been planned to the harbour Rafina.
Car Rental Athens Airport
There are six counters from car rental companies in the Arrivals Hall : Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, National/Alamo and Sixt. You can also reserve a rental car in advance using the service EasyTerra provides. They compare the rates of several providers in a single quote.
Taxi
Taxis are by exit 1. A ride to the centre of the Greek capital is between € 15 – 25 and takes about half hour to an hour depending on the traffic. Ask the driver to set the meter and make sure he uses the correct rate (a “2” before the meter means you pay double the price but is only applied at night).
Airport Parking
Short term parking (P1 and P2) are in front of the Arrivals Hall. Long term parking is at P3 and is connected with the terminal by a shuttle bus. At all parking places the first 20 minutes are free.
You can also leave your car with a driver by the Departures Hall (Central Parking Systems Athens, tel: +30(0)210 353 4260). Rates: 5-7 days € 75.00, € 5.00 per day after that.
