Edinburgh Airport

Edinburgh Airport (EDI)
Edinburgh Airport was originally a military airport – Turnhouse Aerodrome – and the Scottish still call the airport by this name. The airport has been renovated in the past few years including an expansion of the number of parking places and a larger Arrivals Hall. It is a fast growing airport that is expected to process 26 million passengers per year by 2030. A new futuristic looking control tower was opened in 2005.
Local transport
Train
There is still no train connection between Edinburgh and the airport. Construction of a lightrail between the western districts of Edinburgh and the centre was started in 2007. The line will ultimately be extended to the airport (expected to be completed in 2009).
Car and bus
The airport is 12 kilometers west of Edinburgh along the A8 that leads to the centre of the city. The clearly indicated exit to the airport is between two roundabouts (Gogar and Newbridge).
Busses frequently leave from the bus station by the Arrivals Hall to the centre of Edinburgh (the central station close to Waverley Bridge). These busses also stop at the train station Haymarket. The fast bus line 100 (Lothian Buses, (tel: +44(0)131 555 6363) runs 24 hours per day. In addition there is a bus line (35) that goes from the centre of Edinburgh to Ocean Terminal.

In the Arrivals hall for domestic flights there are counters for five car rental companies: Alamo, Avis, Europcar, Hertz and National. You can also reserve a rental car in advance using the service EasyTerra provides. They compare the rates of several providers in a single quote.

Airport Parking
Right in front of the terminal building there is an area for short term parking (max. 2 hours). There is also a parking garage with over 2000 parking places. The long term parking area is next to the Hilton Hotel. A shuttle bus goes to the terminal. In addition there is still a parking area just outside the airport. You can see the prices of the parking areas on the website of the Edinburgh Airport. You receive a discount on the price when you book in advance (tel: +44(0)870 850 2825). You can also do that online. The Airport Parking Directory website offers a service where you can compare the rates of multiple Edinburgh Airport parking suppliers.
