Hamburg Airport (HAM)

The international airport in Hamburg is eight kilometers north of the city centre. In 2008 a new central hall will be finished where the security checkpoint will be for both terminals. There is also a large shopping and restaurant area planned.

Local transport

Train

Work is being done on a direct connection between the airport and the city rain line of Hamburg (S-Bahn). The line will be completed in 2008. Until this time the S-Bahnstation Ohlsdorf is accessible with the Airport Express Bus (line 110).

Car and bus

The airport lies between the two ring roads around Hamburg (R2 and R3) and is right along highway A7 (exit Schnelsen – Nord). From the centre of Hamburg the route to the airport is clearly indicated on traffic signs. In the morning and evening rush hours the roads around the airport are very busy.

Directly in front of the terminal busses leave to various destinations in Hamburg. Line 110 (Airport Express) goes to the Central Station.

Car rental Hamburg Airport

In the Arrivals Hall you can find the counters for the car rental companies Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, National/Alamo and Sixt. You can also reserve a rental car in advance using the service EasyTerra provides. They compare the rates of several providers in a single quote.

Taxi

A ride to the centre of Hamburg takes approximately 30 minutes and costs about € 20. During rush hour both the travel time and the price will increase considerably. Airport Parking

Upon arrival at the airport you are led to many parking areas by various signs. Short term parking is in garages P1, P2, P4 and P5 (€ 3.00 per hour). Hotels

There is one hotel at the airport: the country house style Airport Hotel (tel: +49(0)40 531 020). Close to the airport is the Mercure Hotel (tel: +49(0)40 532 090) and the Best Western Alsterkrug Hotel (tel: +49(0)40 513 030). In 2008 a new luxury hotel will open across from the terminal building. For more hotels and reserving online you can go to Booking.com. Shops and restaurants

As a large airport Hamburg Airport has no shortage of shops, restaurants, snack bars and cafes. In Terminal 2 you can find the table service restaurant Mövenpick (tel: +49(0)40 5075 3328).

Baggage

You can store your baggage in the Arrivals Hall of Terminal 2. The Airport Office is where you can ask about lost and found items. Porters can be reserved at tel: +49(0)40 5075 2010.

Information

There are information counters in both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 that can also be reached through the general telephone number. The Airport Office (tel: (0)40 5075 1010) not only gives information about the airport, but also provides information about all kinds of services including the possibility to get last minute travel insurance.

Business

At the Airport Office you can send faxes, make photocopies and use computers. Offices and meeting rooms (max. 90 persons) can be rented at the Airport Conference Center (tel: +49(0)40 5075 2500). The Hanseatic Conference and Banqueting Center (tel: +49(0)40 5075 3338) offer larger rooms and all sorts of business services such as fax, copying, translating and rental of audio visual equipment. Handicapped persons

The airport has excellent accessibility for handicapped persons. There are wheelchair ramps and adapted elevators, restrooms and telephones. For the support or accompaniment of handicapped travelers (such as door to door service) you can call the German Red Cross at the airport (DRK Mediservice, tel: +49(0)40 5075 3353).

Other services

There are banks, money exchange offices and many cash machines. Furthermore, there are play corners for children. Firs Aid is offered by the Red Cross (first floor of Terminal 2 tel: +49(0)40 5075 3353). When the new central hall is completed in 2008 the service level at the Hamburg Airport will be considerably higher.
