Lyon Airport (LYS)
The full name of the airport is Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport, after the aviation pioneer and writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. The airport is 20 kilometers east of Lyon in Colombier-Saugnieu. There are two terminals between which is the central shopping and service area. A shuttle bus also goes between the two termainals. Lyon Airport processes about 6.5 millions travelers per year, which makes it the fourth busiest airport in France.
Local transport
Train
Within walking distance from the terminal is a station where the high speed TGV trains stop. There are connections with Paris and Marseille (tel: +33(0)8 3635 3535).
There is work being done on a fast tram/subway connection between Leslys and the centre of Lyon.
Car and bus
The airport is along the A432, the highway that connects the A42 (Lyon – Grenoble) and the A43 (Lyon – Chambéry). The route to the airport is clearly indicated on the signs.
You can find the office of Satobus on the first floor of the central hall (tel: +33(0)4 726 87217). This company maintains connections with various places in the surrounding area. In addition to Lyon these buses also go to places such as Grenoble, Aix-les-Biens, Valence and to popular ski destinations in the winter.
Car rental Lyon Airport
Car rental companies Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, National/Citer and Sixt have counters in the Arrivals Hall of Terminal 2. You can also reserve a rental car in advance using the service EasyTerra provides. They compare the rates of several car rental providers in a single quote. Limousines with a driver can be rented with Chabe-Verjat limousine service (tel: +33(0)4 7256 5181).
Taxi
Taxis are in front of Terminal 1 (tel: +33(0)4 7855 3431). A ride to Lyon costs approximately € 40.00, to Eurexpo € 35.00 and to Grenoble € 115.00. Between 19:00-7:00 the rates are substationally higher.
Airport Parking
There is a parking garage under the terminal (P0, up to two hours € 6.00). P1 and P2 (up to two hours € 4.00, per day € 12.00) are intended for short term parking and are by Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, respectively. Long term parking is available in P5 and P6 (7 days € 30.00, 14 days € 40.00). There is a shuttle bus from long term parking to the terminals. Hotels
There are two hotels at the airport: the 4 star Sofitel (tel: +33(0)4 7223 3805) is directly connected with the terminal (central hall). There is a shuttle bus to the 2 star hotel Kyriad (tel: +33(0)4 7223 9090). For more hotels and reserving online you can go to Booking.com. They have a large offering of hotels with great internet rates.
Shops and restaurants
There are many shops, cafés, snack bars and restaurants in the terminal, mainly concentrated in the central hall. More expensive and fancier restaurants can be found in the Sofitel which is accessible from the central hall.
Baggage
Baggage can be stored on the first floor of the central hall. There is also window for lost and found items tel: +33(0)4 7222 7428).
Information
There are three information counters: in the Departures Hall of Terminal 2, in the Arrivals Hall of Terminal 1 and in the central hall between the terminals.
Business
In the central hall there are fax and copy machines, opposite the post office.
The Business Centre (tel: +33(0)4 7222 8374) offers office and conference rooms for two to 80 persons. Catering is available, as well as secretarial support (i.e. translators, typists).
Handicapped persons
Throughout the airport there are adapted elevators, restrooms and telephones. There are parking spaces reserved for handicapped persons in the parking area P6 (by the stop for the shuttle bus). Other services
There are banks, money exchange offices and cash machines throughout the terminals. In the central hall there is a first aid office and pharmacy. Wireless internet is available throughout the whole terminal building.
