Vienna Airport (VIE)

Schwechat Airport is 18 kilometers southeast of the Austrian capital Vienna. In 2006 they began with the construction of a new terminal (Skylink) to capture the increase of passengers. This terminal is expected to be finished in 2008. The Vienese airport processed almost 18 million travelers.

Local Transport

Train

The City Airport Train (tel: +43(0)1 25250) leaves every half hour from the underground train station to the centre of Vienna (travel time: 16 min). If you leave from Vienna there is the possibility to check in for your flight at the Mitte train station. A metro line (Schnelbahn S7) also goes between the airport and the stations Mitte, Nord and Floridsdorf.

Shortly there will also be train going to the Slovakian capital of Bratislava.

Car and bus

The airport is easily accessible from the centre of Vienna from highway A4 or the Bundesstraße B9. On both roads the exit “Flughafen” is clearly indicated.

The bus station is in front of the Arrivals Hall. The Airport Express Bus leaves every half hour from the city centre (Morzinplatz, travel time: 20 minutes).

Furthermore, there are fast bus connections with Bratislava (Slovakia) and Budapest (Hungary).

Car rental Vienna Airport

In the Arrivals Hall you can find the counters for the car rental companies Arac/Europcar, ATL, Avis, Budget, Hertz, National/Alamo, Sixt and Thrifty. You can also reserve a rental car in advance using the service EasyTerra provides. They compare the rates of several car rental providers in a single quote.

Taxi

Taxis are in front of the Arrivals Hall. A ride to the centre of Vienna costs approximately € 32.00. Ask for the special airport price or call C & K Airport Service (tel: +43(0)1 44444). Limousines with a driver can be rented with Radio Car Vienna (tel: +43(0)1 7007 33340).

Airport Parking

The parking areas K1 and K2 are for short term parking (1 hour € 3.40, 5 hours € 17.00). Long term parking is in the parking garages PH3 and PH4 (8 hours € 13.50, 24 hours € 20.10, after the first day it is € 2.50 per four hours for the first 6 days, then € 1.50 per four hours after that). Hotels

Directly across from the Arrivals Hall is the NH Vienna Airport Hotel (tel: +43(0)1 70 15 10) with rooms in three categories: Standard, Business and Superior. For more hotels and reserving online you can go to Booking.com. They have a large offering of hotels with great internet rates.

Shops and restaurants

The Vienna airport has a large offering of shops; there are more than 70. There are also many snack bars, cafés and restaurants. The restaurant Brahms & Liszt (tel: +43(0)1 7007 33385) is specialised in regional dishes and wines.

Baggage

There is a place for storing baggage in the Arrivals Hall. You can also find there the window for lost and found items (tel: +43(0)1 7007 29360). Porters can be hired at tel: +43(0)1 7007 33140.

You can find information counters in Terminal 2 and by the bus station. The help desk available 24 hours per day at tel: +43(0)1 7007 22233.

Business

There are two VIP & Business Centres at the airport: Dependence and a new centre on the Steinriegelweg. Both offer extensive business support services and the ability to rent offices, meeting rooms and VIP Lounges. Tel: +43 1 7007 DW 23300.

The Vienna Airport World Trade Center (tel: +43(0)1 7007 36000) offers offices and meeting rooms to rent as well as conference halls.

Handicapped persons

The airport offers excellent services sfor handicapped persons: wheelchair ramps and adapted restrooms, elevators and telephones. A bus for wheelchair transportation can be ordered with Airport Transfer Service (tel: +43(0)1 7007 35910). In garages PH3 and PH4 there are parking places reserved for handicapped persons. These spaces are close to the elevator.

Other services

In both terminals there are banks, money exchange offices and cash machines. There are two post offices: in the Departures Hall between the terminals and in the shopping area Plaza. The medical centre (tel: +43(0)1 7007 22245) is available 24 hours a day. You can find a pharmacy in the shopping area Arcade between Terminal 1 and parking garage 3 (open from 8:00 – 18:00).
