Phnom Penh International Airport

Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH)
The airport of Phnom Penh is a small, but cosy airport that in recent years has grown enormously in terms of the number of travellers (from half a million in 1998 to 1.2 million in 2007). This has to do with the growing tourism in Cambodia and the arrival of regional budget flights.
The airport is modern, efficient and clean, and above all free from any kind of corruption, all things that are pretty rare in Cambodia.
Most rates mentioned here are in American dollars, a generally accepted currency in Cambodia. The local currency riel is only used for smaller amounts and as change. 1 euro is worth about 5000 riel (March 2008).
Local transport
Train
There is no train connection to the airport.
Car and bus
Phnom Penh Airport is located about 7 kilometres to the west of the city center. From the city, follow the Confederation de la Russie (Russian Boulevard), which turns into National Road 4 (direction of Sihanoukville). Immediately before the intersection with National Road 3 (direction of Kampot), the airport is located on the left.
There are no bus connections to the airport, Phnom Penh has no city buses.
Car rental
There are car rental companies at the airport; there are no international companies in all of Cambodia, there are only local companies that usually rent chauffeur-driven cars.
Taxi
There are taxis in front of the Arrivals Hall. There is a fixed rate of $9 to every destination in the center of Phnom Penh. Since recently, there are also motortaxis (tuktuks) at the airport that charge lower rates ($5 to $7). Moped taxis are not allowed to pick up passengers at the airport, but you can walk to the exit and hail one. A moped taxi costs $2 to $3 (but they will start by asking more).
Parking
In front of the terminal building, there is a large parking area. The rate for the first half hour is 1500 riel, after which it is 1000 per half hour.

Shops and restaurants
Phnom Penh Airport houses a limited number of shops. There are two general duty-free shops, a souvenir shop and a bookstore. In addition, there is a gallery with posters by the artist Stéphane Delaprée. In the international terminal, there are two snack bars. To the right in front of the entrance, there is a restaurant with an open air terrace.

Business
In the international departure hall, there is a VIP Lounge, Le Salon, for First and Business Class passengers. There is (wireless) Internet available. Other passengers can use the lounge against payment of $8. The larger hotels in Phnom Penh provide more extensive business services: business centers, meeting rooms and conference halls (see under Hotels).
Disabled
De airport is reasonably accessible to disabled people. Toilets and the elevator are accessible to wheelchair users. For assistance, contact the information desk, but there is every change that other Cambodians will already have helped you, should that be necessary.
Other services
Between the Arrivals and the Departure Hall, there is an exchange office (tel:+855(0)23 890 141), as well as a post office (tel: +855(0)23 890 174/175), where you can buy things like pre-paid telephone cards. In addition, there are ATM's of the Australian ANZ Bank. Wi-Fi Internet is available via provider OnLine (tel: +855(0)23 430 000) at the Hotspot signs. Next to the Angkor Pub in the Departure Hall, there is a smoking room.
A visa for Cambodia does not have to be applied for in advance, that can be done at the airport (tourist visa $20, business visa $25). The procedure is somewhat comical: your passport is examined by no fewer than eight people. And yet, you get your passport back within 5-10 minutes.
